2012 FILA Grand Prix A SHOCX delegation entered the 1° FILA Grand Prix that took place in Geneva on 11-12 February 2012. Donovan Szklanecki and Brian Bouland brought 4 medals to their team with: gold in BJJ, gold in amateur MMA, silver in Grappling for Donovan and silver in BJJ for Brian. Both fighters showed great skills and improvement since their participation at last year's Grand Prix. They are definitely fighters to count with for Belgium's first participation in the European and World Championships this year. Octagon Quest 3 fighters represented SHOCX at Octagon Quest, a Belgian Mixed Martial Arts promotion that held its first edition in Edegem on 19 November 2011. Johnny Boucquiaux (amateur MMA 80kg) created a stir for his debut fight against Vincent Choveau (Team Perfect) by dominating the stand-up game and submitting his opponent by triangle choke in the first round. Donovan Desmae (amateur MMA 70kg) also performed his very best and knocked the very good striker Abdel Boukzhar (Toughring Fighting Team) out in the second round. Read the Full Story

2011 FILA Grand Prix
A delegation of 5 Shocx figthers entered the 1st FILA Grand Prix that was held in Martigny (SUI) on 07-08 May 2011. The Belgian athletes impressed for their first participation in a FILA grappling event and reached 5 podiums: Uriel Albamonte, silver medal in both Gi and No-Gi grappling 70kg, Claude Hermann, silver medal in No-Gi Grappling 110kg, Verin Fernandez, bronze medal in Gi Grappling 90kg. To be noted the excellent performance of Christophe Van Dijck (90kg) who made silver at the Gi Absolute division after being stopped in final by a knee injury.

Battle of the South 10

2012_battle_south_uriel The 10th edition of the Dutch promotion "Battle of the South" was held in Hoensbroek on 31 March 2012. The event showcased 10 Muay Thai and 10 MMA fights and attracted a huge crowd. The venue and walk out area were nicely arranged and gave perfect fighting conditions to Uriel Albamonte and Adam Mutaliyev who both won their fight. Uriel faced the strong BJJ fighter Daan Westra who tried to keep the fight on the ground and made several nice submission attempts, but Uriel was able to defend and dominate the fight with strong low kicks and ground and pound sessions. Uriel was given winner by unanimous decision.

2012_battle_south_adam Adam faced the local fighter Jeffrey Waltmans and immediately brought the fight to the ground with his first strike. A nice grappling and ground & pound session followed until Adam took the back and dominated his opponent until the end of the first round. At the beginning of the second round, Jeffrey walked into a heavy hook and the fight was stopped by the referee for technical knockout.

Sincere congratulations to both fighters who made their coaches very proud!

2° FILA Grand Prix 2012

The STIB Sport Complex in Brussels was host of the second FILA Grand Prix of the year. It was the first FILA event ever organised in Belgium and it attracted over 100 elite competitors from 17 countries. Competitions of grappling and pankration were held on Saturday, 24 March and were followed by BJJ and amateur MMA competitions on Sunday, 25 March 2012. SHOCX fighters did very well with Rudy Demoulin who won the 71kg grappling division and his teammate Herve Joosten who made third in the same division. The 92kg Verin Fernandez entered all four styles and made first in BJJ, second in grappling, second in MMA and first in pankration. The 100kg Claude Hermann had a similar competition with a silver medal in grappling and BJJ and a gold medal in MMA and pankration. Jeffrey Bodet, Clint Reynaert, Philippe Lainez, Anthony D'Otremont and Amauri San Miguel did their MMA debut and we congratulate them for their overall good performance.

That first event went very smoothly and showcased high-level matches with participation of several former European and World medallists. Belgian athletes must now prepare for the European Championship that will be held at Palais du Midi on 27-30 June 2012 and bring together the creme of European fighters.
